It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome to the 7º Congress of Tropical Medicine of Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (IHMT NOVA), a meeting that will bring together researchers, health professionals, teachers, students, and decision-makers to reflect on the main challenges and opportunities in Tropical Medicine and Global Health.
In a context marked by the emergence of new infectious diseases, the impacts of climate change, which reshape risk geographies for vector-borne diseases, and the growing inequalities in access to healthcare, this congress stands as a space for knowledge sharing, scientific discussion, and strengthening collaboration between institutions and specialists from different fields.
Over the course of three days, the latest scientific advances will be presented and key topics for research, clinical practice, public health, and international cooperation will be discussed, using a One Health approach, reinforcing IHMT NOVA's commitment to producing and sharing knowledge that can address major global health challenges and help improve the health of populations.
This edition takes on a special significance as it is part of the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of IHMT NOVA, marking a path of excellence in teaching, research, and health cooperation, with a particular focus on Portuguese-speaking countries. In highlighting this journey, the 7º Congress of Tropical Medicine aims to design a future of fair collaboration and shared commitment to global health.
We hope this congress provides an enriching scientific experience, and that these days are marked by strengthening collaboration networks and inspiring new ideas that contribute to the advancement of Tropical Medicine and Global Health.
